On Defamation, Libel and Slander

Defamation is the general tort that encompasses statements that damage one's reputation. There are different forms of defamation, including libel and slander. The difference between libel and slander is simply whether the statements are written (libel) or spoken (slander). If a person suffers injury to his or her reputation as a result of another person's statements, he or she can sue under the theory of defamation. According to the American Restatement of Torts" if it tends to harm the reputation of another as to lower him in the estimation of the community or to deter third persons from associating with him. Some examples: a communication that suggests the plaintiff was involved in a serious crime involving moral turpitude or a felony, a communication that exposes a plaintiff to ridicule, a communication that reflects negatively on the plaintiff's character, morality, or integrity, or a communication that impairs the plaintiff's financial well-being.

ArtLeal.com considers derogatory MEMES (created with copyright images) with written untruth and designed to damage Art Leal's reputation and character and further exposes a him to ridicule as Libelous and Art Leal reserves the right to file a lawsuit in court.
